The Last Swashbuckler of Krypton

Mash up of the S7S logo and Superman's symbol

Chad Underkoffler created a nifty little game system called Prose Descriptive Qualities (PDQ), which he uses to power all of his published games. The most recent one is Swashbucklers of the 7 Skies (S7S) that takes the swashbuckling tropes and puts them in an interesting fantasy setting with skyships and floating islands. Chad is holding a contest in which you have to take the S7S logo and change it in some way, be it applying effects to it or doing mash ups. I chose the second because the curved S shapes in the logo reminded me of another S, the one in Superman’s shield.

s7sremix6The first image is my attempt to show you my mad (as in maddeningly poor) Photoshop skills. The second one uses a wider S7S logo that reminds me more of Superman’s. The last one I did so I could be more faithful to the effects in the Last Son of Krypton’s symbol, but I think that departs a bit too much from the contest rules and may not be too kosher. Well, the judges will decide.

Another name for this post was going to be Supermen of the 7 Stars, but since the game’s theme is swashbuckling, I went with the one above.

Rhyme of the Lonely One

I lived under a curse
That I should meet no love
A dread spell indeed
From a wretched witch

She spoke with glee
Even if I cried
That bliss to me
Would forever be denied

High and low I roamed
Searching far and wide
The emotion from me plundered
That would be my prize

For years I wandered
Through kingdoms unumbered
For years I sought
Through lands unheard of

Hope forlorn
I feared for my fate
Loneliness sworn
A lonely one I became

Yet in darkness
I saw a light
Hot as fire
Cold as ice

In the glow I perceived
Though I could not describe
What I heartily believed
Was the woman of my life

And I knew love
But she lived under a curse
That she should repell all love
Hex hard as rock
From the evil warlock

A monster she appeared
To whomever gazed at her
So ensorcelled were they
At her name they swore

But I loved her
And for that love
I would kill and I would cry
I would laugh and I would die

She begged and she pleaded
For me to take my leave
Afraid that she was
That in heartbreak I’d be lost

Fret for me not
To her did I say
Waste no more thought
To you leads my way

Misery and pain I had before
Life to me was unkind
But those are days of yore
And the future looks bright

Let go of demons past
And seize the day fast
For your curse to be broken
You must only decide when

Contos e afins

Novos retalhos/New patches

Hasta!

It took a while, but I finally decided to restart my adventures through the blogsphere. Longtime friends may remember the  first incarnation of my digital quilt. Warning: that template is not the original one. The new layout came up when I started contemplating the idea of returning to  Retalhos (which means ‘patches’, btw). That’s when I took a linking to WordPress and concluded it offered more resources. Now and then, themes from this blog’s first life, like the Boston Connection, will show up here.

Well, in case you don’t know what this blog is about, it’s exactly what I described — a digital quilt I will use to talk about random things, but mainly about that which interests me more, like comics, RPG, science fiction, fantasy, short stories, science etc.; in other words, nerd stuff. That doesn’t mean that other topics won’t show up once in a while, such as politics and art. In summary, a blog like any other.

You (hahaha, if I get even one reader I’ll be impressed) must have noticed that it’s “bilingual digital quilt”. I’ll explain: I have acquaintances and friends abroad and they don’t speak Portuguese. Besides, the communities that cater to my hobbies are frequently attended by people that knows the language of teh anglos. :). If I can include others, why exclude them? That doesn’t mean that all post will be in English and Portuguese, like this one. Just that there will be posts in both languages.

Concluding, the door is open. If one day you find yourself with some free time to surf the internet e don’t know what to do with it (fat chance), drop by.

Tchau!
